Volunteer Removes Amazon Shipping Envelope from West Olympic Boulevard Sidewalk — before and after comparison

On West Olympic Boulevard in Los Angeles, a Clean LA Volunteers community member noticed a plastic-lined Amazon shipping envelope lying on the sidewalk next to a landscaped planter. The before photo shows the mailer on the concrete near dense greenery, where wind or foot traffic could have pushed it into the plants or farther down the block. The volunteer reported this as a quick three-minute stop, with the actual removal taking less than a minute, and the after photo shows the sidewalk and planter edge looking cleaner.

Shipping envelopes like this are easy to overlook because they are lightweight, but that is also what makes them mobile litter. Plastic-lined packaging can tear, trap dirt, and break into smaller pieces over time rather than simply disappearing. On a dry Los Angeles day, removing it early kept the material from spreading into the landscaped area or becoming a hazard for pedestrians.

This was a small cleanup, but it reflects a useful habit: when one visible item is removed, the whole corner feels more cared for. A cleaner neighborhood often starts with one volunteer noticing one piece of litter and taking action.
