Volunteer Clears Plastic Bags from UCLA Franz Hall Landscaping — before and after comparison

During a lunch break near Franz Hall at UCLA in Los Angeles, one volunteer made a quick return visit to the landscaped edge of a campus walkway. In the before photo, lightweight plastic is visible caught in the ivy and dry leaf litter, including a clear plastic bag or film and white plastic packaging. After a few minutes of careful picking, those bright pieces were gone and the planting bed looked more natural against the brick building and walkway rail.

This spot matters because ground cover can hide litter until wind or foot traffic moves it farther across campus. Thin plastic bags and packaging are especially easy to lift and carry into nearby landscaped areas, where they can snag on plants, break into smaller pieces, and become harder to remove.

It was a small cleanup, but it shows how one volunteer can help keep a busy UCLA space cleaner and more welcoming. Cleaner neighborhood habits in Los Angeles often start with noticing one overlooked patch and taking care of it.
