Cleanup Story
Volunteer Clears Plastic and Food Packaging from Veteran Avenue Curb
On Veteran Avenue in Los Angeles, one volunteer made a quick curbside cleanup along a tree-lined stretch of sidewalk. The before photo showed a small cluster of urban litter gathered against the curb, including plastic bottles, a disposable cup, lightweight packaging, and bits of paper waste mixed with dry leaves and pine needles. After just a short stop, the visible trash was gone and the curb looked much clearer for people walking or driving by.
This was also a repeat spot from an earlier cleanup nearby, which is a good reminder that litter often returns to the same edges, gutters, and tree strips. Plastic bottles and cups left at the curb can break into smaller pieces or move with wind and stormwater toward drains, eventually adding to pollution far beyond the original block.
Small cleanups like this help protect Los Angeles streets before trash spreads. A cleaner curb, a healthier tree well, and a more cared-for community space can all start with one volunteer taking care of one small spot at a time.
